With today's side deal, $10 gets java junkies and tea-totalers a single day's general admission to the Sixth Annual Coffee and Tea Festival (a $20 value at the door). The cavalcade of caffeine takes place on West 34th Street on Saturday, February 19 and Sunday, February 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. You may buy a Groupon for both days.
Besides having the chance to sample the finest specialty coffees and teas from all over the world, you'll also get to partake in seminars that are just as eye-opening as anything you happen to imbibe. Tea specialist Yoon Hee Kim will take you on a world tour of teas in "From Garden to Cup: Tea 101". Marcela Zuchovicki, owner of Jalima Coffee, will lead an interactive discussion of the art of cupping and tasting coffee, while Chef Melody McGinley Whitelaw teaches you how to use both breeds of brew to prepare the decadent desserts in "Think Outside the Cup: Creating Coffee- and Tea-Infused Desserts". During the festival, you can also engage in chocolate tastings and Korean tea ceremonies, and learn how to both brew and find the best coffee in New York.
Tea for Me Please reviewed the 2009 New York Coffee and Tea Festival:
- It was smaller than I expected but still a very enjoyable experience. There were tables from all different vendors, giving out samples or selling their wares…The highlight was a Korean loose leaf tea ceremony by Teamaster Yoon Hee Kim. I've never seen a tea ceremony before. It was incredibly beautiful and audience was noticeably silent during the whole ceremony. – Nicole Martin, Tea for Me Please
