During his summer-camp days in Maine, young Pablo Picasso showed an innate knack for poison-ivy treatment but scored low marks in popsicle sticks and finger paints. One-up pintsize Picasso with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of paint-your-own ceramic pieces at Color Me Mine.
Color Me Mine puts paintbrushes and pottery in the mitts of customers old and young. Budding Toyozo Arakawas will follow six easy steps to craft beautifully painted ceramics, first choosing a ceramic piece ($5–$50) from Color Me Mine's seasonally changing selection of hundreds of items.
After charting out the desired design from their imagination or Color Me Mine's idea gallery, painters will select a lead-free, dishwasher-safe underglaze from Color Me Mine's cast of colors, applying paint with the focus of a peregrine falcon occupied by a Rockwellian spirit. Color Me Mine handles all kiln-firing work, allowing clients to take home their final products within 7–10 days. Though not included with this Groupon, a studio fee of $6 for children 12 and younger and $8 for adults covers all paints, supplies, glazing, and firing.
Color Me Mine Anchorage
Named one of the top 10 places for kids' birthday parties by Parents magazine, Color Me Mine's 1,750-square-foot studio brims with décor and fixtures crafted by its own staff members. These include custom-tile floors and a grandfather clock made from shards of shattered pottery. Patrons can walk in and browse well stocked shelves of ceramic plates, vases, and—thanks to an exclusive partnership with the magic magnate—Disney characters, to find party ideas, unique gifts, or simply a little bit of fun with friends and family. The hundreds of available pieces are supplemented by over 70 colors to paint with. Experienced staff members stand closely by to help with bisque or paint selection and answer any questions about materials, design ideas, or how to emblazon Tinker Bell with a perfect Mona Lisa smile, then glaze and fire each creation to forge a bounty of long-lasting keepsakes.
