What You'll Get
Learning fishing lingo is imperative to becoming a master angler, from “mending,” which means moving the line to counteract currents, to “rigging,” which means paying scuba divers to discreetly sneak 60-pound trout onto your hook. Get a scaly primer with today’s Groupon: for $99, you get a two-day fly-fishing school at Colorado Skies Outfitters in Parker (a $295 value).
Colorado Skies Outfitters’ weekend workshops cover the gamut of fishing skills and expertise, combining classroom instruction and on-the-water practice to get greenhorns into catching shape and dust off the skills of experienced anglers. Novices can avail themselves of loaner rods, reels, waders, and boots, so they may experience the thrill of fishing without carving their own pole from solid obsidian. The Saturday session begins at 8 a.m. with six hours in the classroom, where an extensive lesson will teach students will learn how to choose the best equipment and tie essential knots as well as entemology, ideal fishing locations, casting basics, and more. The group then heads out to the water for three hours of casting instruction, concluding at 5 p.m. Six hours of fishing on the South Platte River encompasses the Sunday lesson, in which students will get on-location experience in mending, choosing flies and presentation, and river etiquette, such as when to use the salad rod versus the dinner rod.
