Dr. Columbus, after this surgery, must the patient rest his/her eyes, or are they allowed to drive? I live approximately an hour away from Harrisburg, and want to know if it is fine for me to drive back home soon after the surgery. What can I expect? Thank you.

Hi John. On the day of surgery your vision wil be a little blurry and you must keep your eyes closed for 5 hours after surgery. Therefore you need a driver to take you back and forth from your home on the day of surgery. If you are coming from a far distance, most stay at a hotel adjacent to our office and do the surgery and 1 day postop exam the following day. The day after surgery with lasik, your vision should be clear enough the next day to drive. hope to see you soon. Sincerely, Dr. Columbus
