75+ acres of outdoor terrain provide backdrop for simulated warfare while combatants of all ages maintain minimum engagement distances
A trip to the Airsoft field is the only way to treat an itchy trigger finger, outside of expensive rash creams or firing a water gun carved from a cactus. Scratch the itch for vengeance with today’s Groupon: for $39, you get an Airsoft outing for four at Combat City (a $140 total value). Combat City has one location in Orlando, with a second location slated to open in Winter Park in the summer of 2012. The package includes the following:
- Four all-day admissions (a $25 value each). Each admission includes the following items:
- An Airsoft automatic electronic long gun
- Safety goggles
- 200 rounds
- Four vest rentals (a $10 value each)<p>
Combat City’s simulated-warfare experts equip weekend mercenaries of all ages for controlled engagement on more than 75 acres of outdoor terrain. Gunslingers take a quick jaunt to Combat City’s training facility in the Himalayas, where they’ll receive equipment instruction and learn the rules of play before donning arms. Soldiers then step into organized combat, lurking through vegetation, ducking behind plywood structures, and manning ambush points behind sandbags in a field filled with as many as 200 players. Each game requires triggermen to maintain a minimum engagement distance while pelting each other with BBs, which typically deliver less pain than a paintball or the silent glance of parental disappointment. Covered seating areas provide shade and respite, and players may refuel with their own food or at the vending machine area, supplied by frequent pizza drop-offs from Domino’s.
Additional rounds are available starting at $4 for 1000 BBs, and players may also acquire additional implements such as grenades, flashbangs, and tie-dyed riot gear (not included in today’s deal). Combat City recommends players wear long pants and bring hydration packs. Open-toe shoes are prohibited, and full facemasks are recommended but not required due to heat. Combat City hosts open play Friday–Sunday, opening at 9 a.m. for play from 10 a.m. until dark.
