The air at San Francisco’s Castro Theater will be filled with color, noise and candy when Chuck Palahniuk – bestselling author of Fight Club – helps kick off a party to celebrate the release of Lidia Yuknavitch’s newest novel, The Small Backs of Children. Palahniuk has hailed the book as “a masterful exploration of the treacherous, often violent borders between war and sex, love and art.” He’ll join Yuknavitch for a launching event that goes far beyond the typical staid passage-reading and polite Q&A session. Queercore author and poet Michelle Tea will host an afternoon filled with contests, prizes, disturbing bedtimes stories and mayhem. The playfully suggested attire is “sexy sleepwear,” thereby pushing the envelope even further on this anything-but-bookish book event.
