The United States has a prison addiction. There are currently more than 2 million Americans incarcerated, close to one out of every 100 Americans. This comes at not only a human cost but a financial one -- $80 billion each year in federal money, with tens of billions more in state funding. #Cut50 is a bipartisan program founded by Van Jones to safely and smartly cut the prison population by 50 percent over the next 10 years. At this talk presented by the Commonwealth Club, Jones will discuss the topic with Shaka Senghor, author of the memoir Writing My Wrongs: Life, Death and Redemption in an American Prison. Jones is a CNN Political Commentator, a former advisor to President Obama, and an internationally recognized advocate for human rights.
