The Closest Redline Stop is Charles/MGH. We are then just a quick walk over the bridge onto the esplanade and you are there! Here is a map of Directions along with parking options. http://community-boating.org/about-us/directions

More Questions and Answers

Q:

I was a member here years ago and had my 420 rating, but I realize that will not carry over. With this membership, will I be able to take classes so that I can get other ratings (Jib, Rhodes, 420, etc.) after I finish the intro Mercury classes? Thanks!

Kristina  asked on  Apr 4, 2012

A:

Unfortunately no. The 30 day membership is only useful for novice sailors. It allows for only the Solo rating and kayaking. 30 day members may take the following classes : Orientation, Rigging, Shore School, and Mainsail after attaining the Solo rating. Helmsman and higher ratings are only options for 60 Day and Full Year memberships.

Q:

How can one get access to double kayaks?

Jennifer Y.  asked on  Apr 4, 2012

A:

After you have "checked out" with a kayak rating which includes learning and following CBI's rules and procedures and proper use and care of the equipment, you may bring an adult guest on a double kayak. You may also bring an under 18 guest as long as you provide in writing proof of swimming ability of at least 75 years. Reference CBI's Junior Application form available from our website. Your guest will be required to sign in. A guest may NOT use a single kayak.

Q:

I bought this groupon offer last summer, but I honestly didn't take advantage of it as much as I would have hoped too. Can I buy it again or is the intro membership a one time thing?

anne s.  asked on  Apr 4, 2012

A:

There is no new member requirement for the groupon. However, no ratings carry over from prior full year or 60 day memberships.

Q:

I am absolutely new to sailing and Kayaking and have never done it before in my life. I hope this program would welcome participants like me. I got the overview of the sailing lessons from one of the questions below. Can you put forth similar description for Kayaking lessons as well?

Arun Gupta V.  asked on  Apr 3, 2012

A:

Kayaking is a great way to explore river at your own pace. Classes cover assembly and basic stroke techniques. Learn a sport that opens a new world to you both at CBI and beyond. Kayak Class (1 hour; limited to 10 students) This introductory class covers a variety of topics needed to kayak on the Charles. You will learn basic techniques, safety, and boat handling. You can test for the Kayak rating at the end of this class. The Kayak test will include CBI's rules and procedures and a basic on-the-water test. If you have experience in kayaking and would like to test out, please see the High-Performance dock or the dock house for more information.

Q:

I have sailed in high school with our team at Community Boating. Do I have to take introductory courses or can I use this just for a one month membership as long as I pass skills requirements?

Eileen S.  asked on  Apr 3, 2012

A:

You could go straight to getting your solo rating. A Helmsman rating is not available with this membership as it's aimed at new sailors.
