What You'll Get
The Issue: Food Insecurity in the Fresno Area
Food insecurity affects 50 million people in the United States, according to a study from Feeding America. That means for every 6 people in this country, one is dealing with hunger on a daily basis—a figure that includes more than 1 in 5 children. In the Fresno area, the rate of food insecurity exceeds that of the rest of the country, with 1 in 4 residents struggling with hunger, according to data from the Food Research and Action Center.
The Campaign: Providing Meals for Struggling Families
All donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by Community Food Bank to provide food for families experiencing food insecurity. For every $10 donated, Community Food Bank can buy one week’s worth of food for a family of four. By purchasing goods in bulk, the program ensures that $10 is enough to feed each member of the family nutritious meals each day.

About Community Food Bank
The dedicated employees and volunteers at Community Food Bank work with 180 partner agencies—ranging from schools and community centers to places of faith—in an effort to combat the high level of food insecurity throughout Fresno, Madera, and Kings Counties. Operating out of a 50,000-square-foot distribution center, the team delivers more than 22 million pounds of food each year, including 12 million pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables, to clients in the community experiencing food hardship. The staff and volunteers also train their partner agencies on nutrition, food safety, and the effects of hunger to increase the impact of their work in the community. Every month, 160,000 clients get to enjoy nutritious meals thanks to programs such as Nutrition on Wheels, a mobile kitchen, and the BackPack Program, which provides weekend meals to children who may not have a stable source of food at home.
