Athleticism is more than dodging projectiles, wrangling mascots, and dropkicking a computer after it beats you in chess. Outfit yourself for adventure with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of skate and snowboard apparel and other gear at Concrete Wave, located on Boylston Street.
For two decades, Concrete Wave's staff of committed boarders has shared its technical expertise and fashion sense to help customers stand out on the slopes or at the skate park. Although Concrete Wave's stock rotates with the seasons and styles, visitors might snag shirts ($20–$40) such as a bold DC long-sleeved T-shirt ($25) or pick a hat ($30–$45) from a fresh shipment of Nike fitted snapbacks ($28). Skaters content to ollie in their favorite toga can find a new skateboard ($100+), and those who melt in temperatures over 50 degrees can anticipate winter snowfall with a recently issued Flow Verve snowboard ($200). Concrete Wave also carries a cornucopia of jeans ($52–$80), sneakers ($40–$150), and sunglasses ($65–$130) to conjure up the snow-covered half-pipe canyons of California.
Concrete Wave brings a slice of California style to the Northeast. For more than 20 years, the shop's primary focus has been skateboarding. In addition to stocking decks and boards from makers such as Alien Workshop, Zero, and Original Longboards, Concrete Wave sells skate shoes and clothes from Nike, DC, Vans, and Volcom, among others.
Despite the emphasis on skating—which extended to the opening of a partner skate park in 2008—the shop is also as passionate about powder as an enthusiastic makeup artist. Technicians in the board shop tune up snowboards in preparation for the winter snow season and also sell boards, boots, bindings, and apparel from brands such as Salomon, Vans, DC, and Dakine.
