Before cooking classes, novice chefs were constantly thwarted by common rookie mistakes such as switching the sugar with the salt and the salt with the neighbor's begonias. Learn to navigate this confusing culinary art form with today's Groupon: for $99, you get admission to a hands-on cooking class for two at Cooking Skills Academy in Itasca (a $240 value).
During the three-hour hands-on cooking class of their choice, Cooking Skills Academy's students interact in an intimate kitchen environment as professional chefs instruct in cooking skills and techniques. In It's All About the Stove Top, participants learn stove-top braising as they help to prepare southwestern chicken and rice, applejack braised pork, and a model of the Arc de Triomphe made entirely of zucchini. Quick and Easy, One Pot Wonders focuses on crafting mouthwatering meals in 20–30 minutes, and All Sauté, Made Healthy, Hands-On Pasta Making, and Easy shows participants how to preserve texture and flavor without sacrificing nutrition. To lay the foundation of students' culinary education, classes also teach a number of essential kitchen skills, including knife basics, steaming, sautéing, caramelizing, deglazing, and pea juggling.
