What You'll Get
Aside from climbing out of rattlesnake-infested quicksand or posing for rattlesnake-infested watercolor portraits, few activities combine the focus and physicality seen in martial-arts training. Unite mind and body in a flurry of punches with today’s Groupon: for $39, you get 30 days of unlimited classes in one of four disciplines—Krav Maga, CoreFit, boxing, or judo—at Core Combat Sports Center on Eastpoint Park Boulevard (a $140 value).
Core Combat Sports Center's qualified instructors, among the highest-ranked in the state, cater to the needs of their clients by wrestling self-doubt into submission and molding bodies into battle-hardened machines. Buyers of today’s deal receive 30 days of unlimited classes in Krav Maga, CoreFit, boxing, or judo, each of which is taught by an experienced and certified fightmaster.
Krav Maga puts an emphasis on hard-and-fast self-defense, designed for real-life dangerous situations, such as surprise birthday spankings or full-contact geography bees. Judo, a Japanese martial art, utilizes throws, joint-locks, and grappling for a complete physical and mental workout. The boxing course is expertly led by kickboxing world champion and professional pummeler Abdul Jarvis, and CoreFit classes combine cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training via the use of kettlebells, medicine balls, power ropes, and other apparatuses used to frighten calories and send flab into hiding.
Classes take place at Core Combat’s sleek, 3,100-square-foot fitness center, which includes a stretching and warm-up area as well as private shower-and-dressing facilities. Customers are required to provide their own gear, including handwraps for Krav Maga; 16-ounce gloves, mouth guard, handwraps, and shin guards for boxing; and a gi (uniform) for judo.
Support from CityVoters earned Core Combat Sports Center fourth place in the Best Martial Arts category in 2010:
- Plenty of space, equipment and great access to trainers. – Elizabeth M.

About Core Combat Sports
The instructors at Core Combat Sports Center teach students the various disciplines of Muay Thai kickboxing, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and boxing, but their primary focus is Krav Maga. Designed by the Israeli military, Krav Maga emphasizes real-world self-defense skills. Students of the art learn to strike with hands, elbows, and knees, to fight from the ground, and to defend from chokes and grabs.
CoreFit is designed to train the whole body using high-energy workouts designed for students of any fitness level. Students will use kettle bells, body weight exercises, medicine balls, sandbags, and power ropes. And Core Performance provides semi private coaching to help clients reach their fitness goals through powerlifting and strength training.
