It's 1929, and Chicago jazz musicians Joe and Jerry are in a bind. Having inadvertently witnessed a gangland hit, the two must now flee for their lives and go into hiding. Desperate to get out of town and with gangsters hot on their tail, Joe and Jerry disguise themselves as women and take a gig with an all-female jazz band heading to a show in Miami Beach. Once there, the two struggle to keep up their disguises as they dodge wary mob hitmen and compete for the affections of Sugar Kane, the band's bombshell lead singer. Based on the screenplay to Billy Wilder's classic Some Like It Hot, Sugar is a zany musical adventure coming to San Diego's Coronado Playhouse.
