What You'll Get
Kite boarding is an extreme sport, much like speed dating, municipal politicking, and blogging with the caps lock down. Capitalize on your taste for adventure with today's Groupon: for $249, you get one semiprivate kite-boarding lesson at Cosmic Kites (a $499 value), located in Avon. Lessons take place over the course of two days at Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks.
Cosmic Kites' beginner lesson package is a five-hour land and water course that covers basic kite-boarding safety and wave-faring agility. A professional instructor schools two to four riders at once on proper kite-launching techniques, body dragging, self-rescue, and secrets for safely drinking ocean water. Burgeoning boarders spend the first two hours on sand, learning how winds impact a kite's movement and how to launch, fly, and land a trainer kite. Nonoffensive hand signals ensure safety once riders are ready to work actual waves on water vessels. Upon entering the water, pupils learn one-handed maneuverability and an introduction to self-sufficient water-starting tactics. All instructors collectively bring more than 15 years of instructional experience to the beach and sport IKO and/or PASA certification to help safely shelter learners in water's aqueous arms.
Cosmic Kites hosts beginner lessons seven days per week at various times to suit busy schedules. Cruise to Cape Hatteras and skim some of the most internationally prized waves while learning to harness the power of wind without handcuffing yourself to a turbine.

About Cosmic Kites Kiteboarding
All instructors at Cosmic Kites Kiteboarding boast certifications from either the International Kiteboarding Organization or Professional Air Sports Association, and instill others with the knowledge they've gained during land- and water-based kiteboarding lessons. During land classes, students launch trainer kites, while water-based lessons allow pupils to skip wakes and mow overgrown seaweed while learning fundamentals. For more advanced or specialized instruction, the staff also teaches participants how to perform special maneuvers, tricks, and jumps on water. Additionally, the staff can introduce clients to a range of complete kitesurfing packages, as well as new or used boards and kites, and boots and wetsuits.
Helming additional locations in North Carolina and the Dominican Republic, Cosmic Kites currently sponsors two Dominican riders in their global quest on the World Kitesurfing Tour. When not supervising adrenaline-soaked adventures, Cosmic Kites maintains existing kiteboarding locations, works to open new ones, supports youth sporting events, and develops new ideas for boarding safety that aren't as costly as installing inflatable beaches.
