About Cougar Mountain Zoo

As strange as it may sound, at the Cougar Mountain Zoo, you just might be greeted by a big cat purring. Cougars are among the largest cats capable of true purring, and Cougar Mountain Zoo boasts a distinct subspecies of these overgrown felines, which prowl all over the zoo's award-winning World of Cougars exhibit. Visitors to the exhibit don't just admire the animals from afar; zoo staff facilitate close interaction with the Cougars under strict safety standards, providing a uniquely intimate experience.

Next to the mountain lions dwell their distant cousins, Bengal tigers, who sprawl out on the green grass or press their noses up to a thick wall of glass separating visitors from the wild animals. Other residents of the zoo include a barrel of endangered lemurs from Madagascar, a crowd of fluffy alpacas, and the country's largest herd of Siberian reindeer, who star in the Annual Issaquah Reindeer Festival and assist Santa during the holiday season.

The zoo also boasts a collection of bronze animal statues, a library of wildlife tracks, and a museum that explores not only the world of wildlife, but also the threats they face from human incursion.

This is a great little zoo. Much more personal because it is small. The tiger encounter was fantastic. We added on the tiger feeding. My daughter had a tiger lick her hand through the very safe grated partition. We got the private tunnel experience, private training session we got to see and lots of time to ask questions and observe the 2 brother tiger's behaviors. The tiger walked by the grated partition so could feel his fur and feel his breath on your hand as he was sniffing you. Lots of time for video and great pictures. SO WORTH IT!!

My mother, daughter and I opted for the "Tiger Experience" and I am so glad we did! Unforgettable experience of having a tiger lick your hand really made fond memories for all of us. The zoo staff is very friendly and educated us about tiger behavior, habits, and conservation efforts. We learned that if we should ever be on a tiger safari to not wear Juicy Couture parfum as tigers find it alluring!!

We had the most wonderful experience with the Tiger Encounter for Two! All of the staff were friendly and extremely knowledgeable and seemed to go out of their way to make our visit special. I was able to make a reservation for the encounter a week in advance with no trouble. We went behind the scenes and got to see the tigers hanging out in the enclosure while we learned more about them. We were able to get close enough to them through the gate of their enclosure to feel them breathing on us! It was amazing. The enrichment and feeding portion was also pretty cool to see.The zoo itself has a lot to offer in terms of education and magnificent animals. Overall, even with cold and drizzly weather, it was one of the best experiences.
