In this class, learn the beautiful language of the line in live figure drawing as well as a quick way to find shadow patterns and shapes. Emphasis will be on proportions, gesture, construction of the three dimensional form, & later details of the body. Teens/adults & All levels ok.

Historical techniques for rendering: Hatching,

This essential practice presents the ultimate challenge to the artist and once mastered, opens up a world of possibilities. Whether you aim to become the next great figurative artist or just find joy in the process of drawing, this course will set you on your path and will give you the tools you need to create a successful body of work!
We emphasize the academic approach to drawing the figure from life and the various techniques and mediums used for rendering three-dimensional form. Composed of three and four week long poses, each student will be given ample time to study the shapes, values and edges of the figure and explore different techniques.
Students may choose to work in charcoal, white chalk and graphite or a combination of both. Occasional brief lectures, handouts, assignments and demonstrations will be given.
Figure Drawing Course Description
In this course students will learn how to approach the
figure from life. The class will be broken down into 3 sections. The course will be condensed and intensive on the full figure. We highly recommend you start at the beginning of the course for the entire one month period to build the basic foundation.
Week one will introduce students to basic figure construction
referencing techniques from the Michael Hampton text.
Week two will be introducing students to the concept of form,
understanding shape, value, and edge.
Week three and four will be a long pose using the basics
taught during the first two sessions building onto comparative measuring.

General Charcoal Pencils: 2B med, HB hard, 4B soft
White Charcoal Pencil
Strathmore smooth Newsprint pad (optional)
Fabriano Tiziano Paper- any grey or dark grey tone will work
Drawing Board (clips if not included)
