Ready to explore painting? In this class you will learn the basics including - how to keep your colors clean and vibrant, mix shadow colors and use brush strokes to describe the form. There are many styles you can explore in this workshop. Open to all ages & levels.

We have structured this foundation painting class so that many different skill levels from absolute beginner to intermediate artist can participate. Start the class with basic painting exercises along with explaining your painting materials and how to use them to your advantage. We will spend time painting the basic forms from a still life set up using direct lighting to help you understand value. You will learn how to see these same basic forms when you paint more complex objects. You will learn about proper proportions and relationships. We will cover eye level and foundation perspective, explore line and values, direct lighting and cast shadows as well as soft and hard edges. You will be given lots of one on one instruction with plenty of demonstrations to guide you through the different elements of good painting.

*NO TURPENTINE IS ALLOWED IN THE STUDIOS BECAUSE OF THE FUMES (ODORLESS IS OK)

Assortment of Filberts and Flats, nothing too small, prederably number’s, 6, 8, 10, 12. Assortment of cheap 1” and lager handware store brushes.
Assortment of small canvas for studies: 11x14, 12x16, 14x18, 16x20, and 18x24. Larger canvas for final works: 24x36 ad 36x36 etc. You can start with just a few of the smaller canvas boards.
Paints – oil or acrylic (Mandatory limited palette and canvas)
Cad red light reference
Ultra marine blue
Cadmium green light
Any number of photographs or images cut from magazines of landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes
Acrylic yellow ocher, raw sienna or neutral grey for toning canvas
Water jars (spray bottles for acrylic painters
Acrylic varnish for acrylic painters (if using acrylic paints)
Walnut or linseed oil (if using oil paints)
Rags and paper towels (Please do not use the one in the bathroom)
