To ensure their food supply on long treks through the desert, cowboys stacked their saddle horns with onion rings and poured chili into their 10-gallon hats. Feast on significantly evolved fixins with today’s Groupon: for $7, you get $15 worth of Western-style comfort food at Cowboy Grub on Foothill Drive.

Cowboy Grub's snack rustlers subdue hulking hungers with hearty, scratch-made comfort fare. Taste buds can lounge on a pot roast's pillows of tender, slow-cooked meat ($13.79) until they drop off to sleep and annoy the uvula with their snores. Alternately, a top sirloin steak ($16.29) drips meat moisture onto waiting tongues, and the grilled poultry heaped in the center of a turkey pot pie ($7.29) provides a savory counterpart to the homemade dessert pies, served by the slice or whole and filled full of fillings such as country apple ($3.50/slice), chocolate cream ($3.25), or pecan ($4.25).

Harvest freshly chopped veggies from a salad bar built to look like a Conestoga wagon, or tap toes to country-western beats as you debate the merits of the Homestead Act with Wyatt Earp's ghost.

Cowboy Grub

Since 1975, cooks at this family-owned, Western-themed eatery have been slinging homestyle comfort fare crafted from scratch. House favorites, such as meatloaf fashioned from freshly ground sirloin or pot roast accessorized with pan gravy, share plate real estate with Western-style specialties, including chili with cowboy beans and Mexican entrees. Bakers forge warm rolls and corn bread to pair with dinners, and also roll out flaky pie crusts to fill with meats, gravy, and potatoes. The kitchen prides itself on its house-made ingredients, taking the time to blend salad dressings, barbecue sauce, and cocktail sauce from secret recipes. Cowboy Grub hosts live cowboy music on select evenings, as well as a children's playroom loaded with free rides, games, and the rascally spirit of Billy the Kid.

Customer Reviews

Cowboy Grub is a Salt Lake City classic! I love their salad bar, soups, cornbread, and cookies! Their cheese enchiladas were fabulous too!
