Creativity can strike at any moment, whether you're near clay and a pottery wheel or beside a slumbering strongman and many rolls of toilet paper. Learn to recognize opportune moments with today's Groupon: for $17, you get a three-hour introductory pottery class at Coyote Clay School (a $34 value). Classes are available Mondays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. Classes are recommended for adults, but children 10 and up may attend with a paying adult.
Coyote Clay School invites earth manipulators of all experience levels to explore its expansive class studio equipped with 12 potter's wheels. Knowledgeable teachers lead earthenware disciples through a three-hour workshop on the art of creating bowls, cups, plates, and superbly sturdy clothing on the pottery wheel. Students spend the full three hours pumping and spinning at their wheels while swatting away the grabby hands of gravity via ceramics-crafting tools provided by the studio. No previous experience is necessary, and each session is capped at 10 participants, allowing students to experience individual technical instruction and the time to properly interview clay on what it would like to become. Students complete each of their clay creations through the bisque stage by class's end, but must return to glaze and fire works in one of the studio's gas or electric kilns at student rates ($1.50/lb., not included in this Groupon). The school also gives participants an extra 10% off registration to the six-week course, which teaches more in-depth throwing and hand-building skills that come in handy at one’s next tournament of ceramics.
