Today's side deal to Craft Alliance gets you one six-week art course of your choice at the Grand Center location for $60 (up to a $195 value). The growing organization prides itself on being a top-notch visual venue and was recognized as such when the Delmar Loop branch was named the Best Art Gallery by CityVoters and Fox 2 News earlier this year. This Groupon does not include the cost of materials, which ranges from $20–$40 per course.

The Grand Center studio location, nestled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters building, is the newest addition to Craft Alliance's alliance, which originally took root in 1964. The studio offers a wide variety of art instruction for students of all ages and experience levels, with courses in clay, metals, fiber, and computer graphics commencing every six weeks. With this Groupon you can hone the craft of your choice under the expert supervision of the alliance's friendly faculty, allowing you to live out your dreams of shaping clay atop the pottery wheel or learning the basics of Photoshop to keep your Facebook profile pic in pristine condition.

Must call at least one week in advance to register for your course of choice. Space subject to availability.

Reviews

Though artists are too busy making masterpieces to write reviews of the Grand Central location, the Delmar Loop location was voted the #1 Best Art Gallery in the CityVoter/Fox 2 Hot List, and seven Yelpers give it 4.5 stars. The Craft Alliance participated in 2009's renowned SOFA Chicago, an exhibition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art:

  • Hands down the most influential and all-embracing gallery to promote arts, education, and community success through outreach and cultivation of the highest caliber of works and artists. – acshatz, CityVoter
  • Craft Alliance offers some stupendous art classes...You're bound to find something that gets those creative juices flowing. – Julia W., Yelp

About Craft Alliance

Art has the power to bring people together, whether in appreciation or the act of creation. The Craft Alliance Center provides both of these social adhesives, thanks to a catalog of classes covering pottery, painting, glasswork, and woodworking. The center is also home to monthly exhibitions and other events to showcase the work of both professionals and students, and give visitors the chance to appreciate local creative talent.

The focus is art in all its forms. Whether the tool is the raw flame fusing cut copper or Sculptris software running on a 3D printer, the intention to inspire and to create remains the same. Its two locations schedule seasonal terms with four- to six-week classes, as well as intensive workshops and children’s classes. Guiding each student along his or her adventure, skilled faculty instruct from experience. Most are working artists who continue to exhibit their work nationally and who participate in various aspects the art world.

Craft Alliance is empowering people with real world experience in making items like ceramic bowls, wooden spinning tops, rings and 3D printed objects. A good number of these pieces are created by hand and are meant to remind us that everyone can do something different from their everyday, workaday lives by adding beauty to a world that truly needs it.

The student and faculty artists are the backbone of the Craft Alliance community, which in 2014 celebrated its 50th anniversary. The Grand Center location represents a regeneration of an arts district already pillared by the Fabulous Fox Theatre, Powell Symphony Hall, and St. Louis University.
