Without craft stores, no one would be able to find the materials needed to build a tricycle for a badger or carve lumps of sugar into the shape of a dinosaur femur. Encounter aisles of creativity with today’s Groupon to Craft Alliance. For $60, you get one six-week art course of your choice at the Grand Center location (up to a $195 value). This Groupon does not include the cost of materials, which ranges from approximately $20–$40 per course.
Craft Alliance, a growing organization that prides itself on being a top-notch visual venue, was duly recognized as such when the Delmar Loop branch was named the Best Art Gallery by CityVoters and Fox 2 News earlier this year. The Grand Center studio location, nestled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters building, is the newest addition to Craft Alliance's alliance, which took root in 1964. The studio offers a variety of art instruction for students of all ages and experience levels, with courses in clay, metals, fiber, wood, and computer graphics commencing every six weeks. Achieve your dreams of shaping clay atop the pottery wheel, or learn the basics of Photoshop to keep your Facebook profile pic in pristine condition. Students hone their craft skills of choice under the expert supervision of the alliance's friendly faculty.
Though there are few reviews of Craft Alliance’s Grand Central location, the Delmar Loop location was voted the #1 Best Art Gallery in the CityVoter/Fox 2 Hot List, and six Yelpers give it a 4.5-star average. The Craft Alliance participated in 2009's renowned SOFA Chicago, an exhibition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art.

Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design
Art has the power to bring people together, whether in appreciation or the act of creation. The Craft Alliance Center provides both of these social adhesives, thanks to a catalog of classes covering pottery, painting, glasswork, and woodworking. The center is also home to monthly exhibitions and other events to showcase the work of both professionals and students, and give visitors the chance to appreciate local creative talent.
The focus is art in all its forms. Whether the tool is the raw flame fusing cut copper or Sculptris software running on a 3D printer, the intention to inspire and to create remains the same. Its two locations schedule seasonal terms with four- to six-week classes, as well as intensive workshops and children’s classes. Guiding each student along his or her adventure, skilled faculty instruct from experience. Most are working artists who continue to exhibit their work nationally and who participate in various aspects the art world.
Craft Alliance is empowering people with real world experience in making items like ceramic bowls, wooden spinning tops, rings and 3D printed objects. A good number of these pieces are created by hand and are meant to remind us that everyone can do something different from their everyday, workaday lives by adding beauty to a world that truly needs it.
The student and faculty artists are the backbone of the Craft Alliance community, which in 2014 celebrated its 50th anniversary. The Grand Center location represents a regeneration of an arts district already pillared by the Fabulous Fox Theatre, Powell Symphony Hall, and St. Louis University.
