What You'll Get

Coffee is often called a miracle drug, not only because it cures numerous diseases, including ataxia and ear splints, but also because it has the amazing power to either wake you up or to help you relax. Wake up or unwind with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of delicious eats and satisfying sippables at Cream & Sugar in the Oakleigh Garden District.

Cream & Sugar pampers its patrons with a menu of enticing edibles to complement an array of carefully barista'd beverages. Toast yet another night of successful vampire evasion with an early-morning coffee ($1.50–$2) paired with a sausage, mushroom, and onion frittata ($7.25), or tend to your werewolf wounds with a psyche-salving cappuccino ($2.75–$3.75) and croissant with butter and jelly ($2). Lunch munchers can rely on noontime temptations such as seafood gumbo with cheese grits ($4.50/cup or $7.25/bowl) and quiche with crabmeat and goat cheese ($7.95) to avoid troubling midday tummy tantrums. An ice cream bar and pastry cases stocked with red velvet cake balls ($2.50 each), lemon-curd cake ($5.75), and other treats bring smiles to mouths full of sweet teeth, while a variety of fancy espresso drinks, such as the Ebony and Ivory ($4.50), and tasty tipples such as the chocolate espresso martini ($9) turn garden-variety guzzling into high-falutin' gastro-gulpery.

Housed in an old but newly renovated home, Cream & Sugar features a marble bar weighed down by the Old World heft of an imported Italian espresso machine. A fenced-in yard allows children to frolic and chase butterflies with their homemade butterfly clubs, while porch and patio seating give guests of all ages the chance to luxuriate in the fresh air and enjoy the songful griping of cranky sparrows.

The Press-Register, Mobile Bay magazine, Chattanoogan.com, and Lagniappe featured Cream & Sugar. Eighty-five percent of Urbanspooners recommend the restaurant, and more than 700 Facebookers are fans.

  • To finish your day, make sure to stop at Cream & Sugar for a delicious dessert or nightcap. Their outdoor patio is a great place to relax as you drink a glass of champagne and enjoy one of their delectable pastries or pies for dessert. The staff is friendly and helpful – Kate Wilson, Chattanoogan.com
  • If you’ve not been, you must. The location is small, the service personable. They cook to order, so be patient. It’s all worth the wait. – Andy MacDonald, Lagniappe

About Cream & Sugar Cafe

Cream & Sugar Cafe, which was voted as Lagniappe's best coffeehouse for the 2013 Nappie Awards, might give off the impression of just being a quaint little house from the outside, but on the inside, its a whole different story. Chefs specialize in gourmet cafe fare, such as the crabmeat and goat cheese quiche on a pecan crust or the house's seafood gumbo poured over a plate of grits. To complement these entrees, they prepare drinks with the house's manual Italian espresso machine and create unique delicacies such as their signature cake balls. They make these bite-size delicacies in numerous flavors, and even incorporate liquor for spiked sweets perfect for any adult party. The decor is bright and retro, with a rustic wood plank and marble bar, chalkboards scribbled on with colorful chalk, and vintage pastry display cases.
