Customizable food is a trend with a bright, glittering future, because salad bars of the future will permit diners to replace lettuce and carrots with gummy bears and beef jerky. Today's Groupon presents a similar plethora of custom eats: for $8, you get $16 worth of burgers, custard, and more at Create, located in northwest Las Vegas on West Lake Mead Boulevard.
Lance Graulich came up with the create-your-own-burger concept while standing in line at Starbucks, where he overheard a woman order a latte so complicated that it became its own drink. At Create, burgermeisters can dictate every element of the sandwich, with four types of bread/wraps, eight cheeses, 26 toppings, and 27 sauces on the menu, as well as 67 ways to use your sandwich in a food-derived puppet show. Chomp on a 1/3-pound patty on Hawaiian bread with alfalfa sprouts and grilled pineapple, topped with garlic mayo and feta cheese ($4.01). Toppings stockpilers can stock a burger castle with grilled onions, bacon, and a host of delicious reinforcements. Create's equally renowned frozen custard (starting at $1.99) explores the same crafty process, offering toppings such as Kit Kat pieces, raspberries, and Fruit Loops to jazz up the dense, rich treat ($0.50 for most toppings). Complete your meal with a side of sweet-potato fries ($1.99), which tickle taste buds like the vegetative fingers of a delicious wood sprite.
Inside Create, a TV monitor displays masterpieces from Monet and Van Gogh, artistic masters who would've hastily traded brush strokes for burger munching had they tasted Create's Angus beef. Create strives toward eco-friendly goals, recycling all plastics and glass while utilizing energy-efficient dish cleaners, and further eliminating waste by awarding members of the "clean plate club" a visit to the well-stocked toy chest.
Reviews
The Las Vegas Review-Journal gives Create a B rating overall. Yelpers give it an average of four stars, and 85% of more than 230 Urbanspooners recommend it:
- Like most of its successful brethren, Create straddles the you-design-it/we-design-it line with a few pre-ordained burgers and nearly endless possibilities of you-pick variations. – Las Vegas Review-Journal
- Friendly service. Nice menu w/many options. Received order w/in 5-7 mins of placing it. Healthy portions w/o being too big...just right. – Michael Marstellar, Urbanspoon
- You can either create your own burger or select one of the specials which are creative and taste excellent. The custard is also outstanding as it is made on property. I have introduced many people to this restaurant and all have been impressed. – Sean M., Yelp
