Q&A with Jessie, Instructor
How is your approach different than that of other professionals in your field?
As opposed to the more "technical" approach of most photography courses, we offer clear and easy to understand "how-to" instructions. We teach you how to achieve a great portrait without running you through the rigmarole of explaining every single camera button/function while leaving you overwhelmed with information and still not knowing how to take a portrait. With our online course, you receive simple and concise instructions on what you need to know and do (including everything from knowing how the camera works to understanding different lighting situations and post production).
The course covers the basics of portrait photography and is perfect for photography beginners and amateurs that want to take more professional pictures or wish to launch a portrait business. The course is designed to be completed over a six-week period, however, students can finish the course at their own pace. The course includes a weekly reading assignment, photo assignment, quiz, and discussion board. There are also a number of educational videos included in the course.
Do you or your staff have any special certifications or degrees?
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education with specialization in Photography.
When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
I have had a passion for teaching since I was a child, but when I took my first black and white film photography course in college I instantly fell in love and haven't stopped taking photographs since.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
This is a great course for individuals who just bought their first digital SLR and want to know how to take great pictures, or for amateur photographers interested in improving their photography skills. This is also a great course for mothers interested in photographing their children (as well as save dollars normally spent at a local studio) so that they can create valuable memories that have a professional touch. Also, the course caters to individuals interested in starting a photography business. It provides helpful resources for creating websites and writing up contracts and other important photography documents; information about marketing and branding your business; what equipment to purchase and where to purchase it; and getting the word out about your business.
