Los Angeles' Critical Mass Performance Group presents Ameryka, an experimental production that uses intertwining characters and stories to take a kaleidoscopic look at major world events. The performance, hosted by the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles, is an epic examination of the historical connections between the U.S. and Poland. Exploring such subjects as the war on terror, the struggle for civil rights and the fight against communism, Ameryka turns history inside out while examining the various triumphs and failures of democracy while charting the similarities between these unlikely nations. True to form, the Critical Mass Performance Group utilizes music, moving images, found text and physical spectacle to create a provocative, nonlinear narrative. The cast of just nine performers handles each role, revealing the human heart at the center of historical, political and sociological progress.
