At CrossFit 732 at Absolute Fitness NJ, it’s not uncommon to find people flipping truck tires, doing pull-ups, or climbing a rope to the ceiling. Outside, someone might be pulling a jeep with their bare hands. If doesn’t sound like a typical workout, that’s because it’s not—cofounders Rob Esposito and Jerry Andrews have built more than a simple gym, assembling a fitness school and community based on support for one other and the unceasing push to test physical limits.
Like a teenager’s mood, the workouts change each day, adhering to CrossFit’s principles of varied, functional movements. Sessions may combine cardio, such as running and jumping with weightlifting, kettlebell exercises, and body-weight exercise, such as pushups, pull-ups, and burpees. The staff, which includes CrossFit-certified trainers and a former military police officer in the US Navy, also leads programs such as youth conditioning and training for sports including weightlifting and Red Rover.
