The human body, unlike raisins, white wine, and the wit of Oscar Wilde, isn't meant to be dry. Soak it all in with today's Groupon: for $15, you get three aqua running classes with Camille Smith-Ballon at CruzFit (a $30 value).
Camille Smith-Ballon funnels her multicertified talents and expertise into leading groups of fitness-builders along their strengthening journeys. Aqua Running classes blend the cardio-enhancing and muscle-building benefits of running with the joint-supportive nature of water. Suitable for beginner- and intermediate-level aquatic joggers, the one-hour class works the entire body and takes advantage of the extra resistance provided by water to improve land-running techniques. The amorphous nature of the water allows legged mer-humans to adapt their workouts to their comfort level, as the water, like a bully who's actually as tough as he acts, provides resistance in proportion to the intensity with which you fight it. Classes are currently scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the Santa Cruz High School pool. Call for additional appointments and locations.
After Camille Smith-Ballon was struck by a car, she refused to treat her neck, back, and shoulder injuries lying down. Instead, she hit the gym. As she pushed through rehabilitative exercise and resistance routines, she accumulated numerous fitness certifications and acquired the knowledge that would one day fuel her own training business. Now, as the owner of CruzFit, she stands by the belief that willpower trumps all other circumstances on the road to wellness. She leads private- and group-training sessions based on her clients’ preferences, asserting that fitness should stem from the activities you love to do. She also hosts Aqua Running classes at neighborhood pools, utilizing water resistance to tone the body's sprinting muscles and prepare runners to finally outpace showoff mechanical rabbit lures.
