- $49 for two-hour wine education class for two ($150 value)
Sommelier Crystal Cameron leads two-hour classes where students learn the basics of identifying wine using their eyes, taste buds, and noses. After the class, students will know how to determine the type and quality of grape, and have an arsenal of tips to determine the acidity, tannins, and alcohol level.
Crystal Cameron, the sommelier behind Crystal Palate, has had an adventurous life. She's worked as a news anchor and PR executive. She volunteers around Virginia. But a love of wine has stuck with her throughout her life, and she now works to bring the experience of visiting a wine bar to homes and parties. Her knowledge is backed by a certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, and she uses that background to introduce oenophiles and rookie wine tasters alike to new varietals. Her expertise is visible online in a series of food and wine pairings that include everything from flap steak and rioja to salmon and pinot noir.
Yiannis Wine Shop
Handcrafted woodwork shelves hold Yiannis's 500+ bottles of wine, enclosing customers in a wine-centric universe complete with wine tastings. Boasting an expansive selection of red, white, and sparkling wines, the shop focuses on California wines and stores its more expensive vinos in a temperature-controlled room. In addition to wines, Yiannis lovingly keeps a selection of fine cigars from around the world in a humidor. Within its humidity-controlled confines, each stogie's ideal flavor and indifference toward people lighting it on fire is preserved.
