Excelling in the art of dance requires patience, swan-like grace, and a pair of feet strong enough to squeeze two lumps of coal until milk comes out. Massage coal teats into a dance bucket with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a punch card for any five Zumba classes at ¡Cubanéate! Dance (a $50 value). Classes are held above Dancer's Den Dancewear downtown. All classes must be used by Friday, July 29.
Owned by internationally trained twirlers, ¡Cubanéate! Dance imports Cuban and other Latin rhythms into the icy heart of downtown Regina. Led by founder Jen Lachambre, who earned her capabilities studying salsa, rumba, and Afro-Cuban dance in Cuba, Zumba classes alternate slow and fast Latin rhythms, fusing easy-to-follow dance moves with interval and resistance training. This hybrid approach cultivates a festive atmosphere where shimmiers and shakers burn calories, tone muscle, and glean moves to dominate impromptu office dance-offs. The flexible Zumba summer class schedule offers five one-hour classes per week starting Monday, June 6. Classes can be attended through Friday, July 29 (there is no class on Friday, July 1).
Buyers of this Groupon should attend one of three available information sessions on either Tuesday, May 24, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, May 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; or Saturday, June 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Those who cannot attend may email ¡Cubanéate! to arrange picking up their punch card at the first class. Each class is limited to 30 people, so participants should reserve spots on the class sign-up sheet, which will be posted online one to two weeks before each class.
Cuban melodies don't just make Jen Lachambre's toes tap. They burrow into her mind and inspire her entire body to move. They've even led her to their island home, where she learned to speak Spanish and dance salsa like a pro. After a year of cultural immersion, she toted her newfound expertise back to Regina, where she set up a dance studio named ¡Cubanéate! with Havana native Michel Medrano Brindis. Here, seasoned instructors help dancers of all levels hone sons and cha-chas in a fun, supportive environment. Casino—the studio's signature Cuban salsa class—teems with fluid motions and circular patterns, like a merry-go-round on the ocean's floor. The studio also specializes in Zumba fitness parties, where groups practice easy-to-follow dance steps to a soundtrack of Latin beats.
