Personnel very friendly and supportive and exercise program is fast-moving - after familiarity with the program, one can be in and out in 30 minutes and feel like you had a workout.

I may or may not buy a membership after my current deal expires, but either way I'm glad I got to try it out and have told a number of neighborhood friends about it.

What You'll Get

When compared to mixed-gender populations, the members of all-female lizard species are stronger, happier, and 10 times more likely to be named Trisha. Today's Groupon brings together likeminded ladies to increase fitness, morale, and results: for $35, new clients get two months of Curves' 30-minute workouts, including two Curves Circuit with Zumba classes (a $133 value) at Curves. Choose from 15 area locations:

With machines set up in rows to encourage competition, many ordinary gyms cater to men's bodies and psychology, right down to the urinals that were accidentally installed in the women's locker room. In the 30-minute Curves Circuit workout, you'll move around a circle of hydraulic resistance machines designed to work with women's bodies and promote weight loss, protect against osteoporosis, and deal with arthritis. Wedged among the wheel of workout devices are a series of recovery boards, where waist-whittlers run, walk, jog, or mosey at their own pace to catch breath without losing heart rate. An experienced trainer is always nearby to help manage machine maneuvering and muscle making. Instead of fiddling with weight stacks and losing momentum, the hydraulic machines use body weight and fitness levels to create resistance that matches abilities, decreasing the risk of soreness or injury. Because traditional lift-and-lower motions create bulky muscles, each machine uses push-and-pull motions to create toned, lean muscles perfect for crushing a grapefruit without looking like you can. Most Kansas City Curves are equipped with the CurvesSmart cyber-coach, an electronic, individually calibrated progress-tracker that motivates potential-reaching stretches.

The Zumba-infused Curves classes use the inward-facing machines of the circuit-workout but replace the recovery board with a decidedly jiggy dance pad. Harnessing the funky power of Zumba's world renowned dance fitness program to Curves' toboggan of resistance-training, the class' soundtrack of lively pump-up music includes cues for when it's time to move on to the next station. Meet new friends and plan a girls' night out between labored breaths, or invite along some of your current friends as friends instead of as shields against the guy ogling you at the juice bar.
