Like cheese, classical music is best enjoyed when in string form. Snack on the sounds of cultured compositions with today's Groupon to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, also known as The Center for Performing Arts at The Woodlands. Tickets are first-come, first-served. Choose between the following performances:
- For $7, you get one ticket to Dancin' with the Symphony on Friday, June 10 at 8 p.m. (a $15 value).
- For $7, you get one ticket to Contemporary Masters on Friday, August 5 at 8 p.m. (a $15 value).
The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion was renovated and expanded to include thousands of new seats, a larger canopy structure, and a state-of-the-art sound system that makes the Houston Symphony’s perfectly punctuated staccatos sound superb. Direct brass ear-horns toward the melodic strings of the Houson Symphony at Dancin' with the Symphony, where guests can choreograph high leg kicks and rhythmic punches beneath the stars.
In August, the Houston Ballet gracefully takes the stage for Contemporary Masters, which presents three vibrant ballets by three of the industry's top choreographers. Jiří Kylián's "Falling Angels" bedecks eight ballerinas in black leotards for a piece inspired by West African ceremonial music and Christopher Wheeldon's "Rush" features skilled principal dancers backed by an adroit ensemble that elegantly whirls and hand-binds the night's playbills. Rounding out the evening is a new work from Jorma Elo, "One/end/One", which was created specifically for the Houston Ballet and features nameless dancers culled from classified governmental dance halls. Seated in the venue's orchestra section for both performances, guests are close enough to smell the resin and sweat from epic on-stage bow fights. Both shows' gates open at 7 p.m.
