Although Italians originally invented pasta as a fastener to keep Sicily from floating away, they abandoned it for less-delicious moorings after locals on both sides kept snacking their way toward separation. Tether your taste buds to today's Groupon: for $10, you get $25 worth of Italian cuisine and drinks at Baldo's Trattoria, located on Hampton Avenue.

The personable pasta professors at Baldo's Trattoria have whipped up savory Italian dishes in their family-owned-and-operated eatery for 29 years. The menu is steeped in treasured tradition and savory sauces. Lead off with classic antipasti such as prosciutto and melon ($7.95), then tipple your taste buds with the piquant chicken pinot grigio platter ($14.95). An impressionistic cheese-scape adorns each crispy canvas of Baldo's pizza margherita ($10.95), and the tortellini alla panna's carefully crafted assemblage of prosciutto, peas, and mushrooms ($12.95) can fulfill fantasies of eating a still life without the annoyance of having to pick paint flecks off your gums.

A green awning and white-clothed tables welcome eaters to Baldo's relaxed yet elegant setting. Mirrors bedeck the walls, reflecting rays of natural light and happy eaters licking family-recipe gelato and collectible dinosaur stamps.

Da Baldo's Trattoria

After leaving his hometown of Salemi in Sicily, restaurant proprietor Baldo Gandolfo began dazzling locals with mouthwatering Italian recipes honed through four decades. Baldo's wife, Madda, welcomes guests on their arrival to the mirror- and artwork-flecked dining space, and Baldo's sister Rita keeps a generous supply of saucy pastas, rich veal, and succulent chicken dishes flowing from the kitchen. Diners sit down to sup at linen-cloaked tables in the floral-wallpapered dining area and toast to a satisfying meal over glasses of espresso and flavorful Italian wines. In addition to dishing out hearty entrees and gelato-tinged desserts to families and friends, Da Baldo's provisions larger gatherings with a private banquet space capable of comfortably fitting 90 people or 60 Shriner cars.

Move into the heart of the Hill. The food and service is excellent! A Different atmosphere in the middle of the Hill would make this restaurant the best on the Hill!
