About Dade City Heritage And Cultural Museum
The Atlantic Coastline Train Depot Built by the Atlantic Coastline Railroad in 1912 to replace a structure located about 1/4 mile north, the Atlantic Coastline Train Depot in Dade City was the first site in Pasco County to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. (July 1994) The tracks that run closest to the depot were the first to reach Dade City in 1887. The Railroad was originally owned by Atlantic Coastline (ACL), and then later merged with Seaboard Air Line in 1967 to become Seaboard Coastline. Until 1957 it served as a station on a secondary Trilby to Tampa branch of the ACL's Southland en route to Tampa. In 1990 Amtrak brought train service back with its Silver Star on a routing along the old Seaboard Coast Line main line through Ocala and Wildwood to Miami. In 1996 service was moved over to the Silver Palm. This service was transferred over to the Palmetto in 2002 and service finally ended on November 1, 2004. Today it is served only by Amtrak's Thruway Motorcoach bus service between Jacksonville and Lakeland. The station was preserved and reopened as a tourist destination with a grand re-opening held on October 23, 2008. Through efforts from the city and local residents, the depot was transformed into the Dade City Heritage and Cultural Museum in 2018, where it now houses artifacts, photographs, documents, and records of historic places and longtime residents of Dade City. The museum consists of a main exhibition space, a model train room, and a Community Archive and Reading Room. It is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit under the IRS and is run by volunteers.
