What You'll Get

The holidays bring all sorts of dilemmas, such as what to get the person who likes nothing and when to begin blocking off the chimney. Solve one of these problems with today’s Groupon to Candlelight at Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park. Choose between the following options:

 • For $10, you get tickets for two (up to a $20 value). These tickets can be used for two adults or seniors or one adult and one child.
 • For $14, you get tickets for four (up to a $32 value). These tickets can be used for two adults or seniors and two children.

Groupon buyers can use their tickets for a single day’s attendance on one of the following dates:

 • Saturday, December 10, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
 • Sunday, December 11, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A 40-year tradition, Candlelight bedecks the historic grounds of Dallas Heritage Village’s 1840s–1910s township in period-appropriate holiday décor as local performers fill the streets with dance and song. Guests can opt to trundle down candle-lined paths in a carriage pulled by a dutiful pair of mammoth-jack donkeys named Nip and Tuck ($5/person, not included with this Groupon) or a dutiful tractor ($3/person, not included with this Groupon) desperately hoping for a sweet nickname. Meanwhile, dancers and choirs emerge in caroling clusters from the Main Street Stage, Pilot Grove Church, and Renner School steps. Storytellers gather crowds in knots around charming seasonal tales as artisans demonstrate the finer points of hand-weaving baskets, the blacksmith’s trade, and shoeing horses with elf slippers. The spirits of Candelights past haunt framed photos in the Candlelight Memories exhibit, which hang still in counterpoint to the lively interaction of the village’s cast of historical interpreters.

Jolly Saint Nicholas himself poses for photographs with families and adoring fans at the bandstand, collecting children’s holiday wishes and teaching adults how to use calligraphy to fill out their taxes. Homemade baked goods provided by the Guild of Dallas Heritage Village tempt tongues with the heady aroma of sugar and butter, and cash-only food trucks dispense hearty fare to patrons and curbside carolers alike.

About Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park

At Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park, visitors step back in time more than 100 years, immersed in the buildings and lifestyles of those who populated the land from 1840 to 1910. These historic structures have been slowly relocated over the last century to represent north-central Texas's storied past in one location: Dallas Heritage Village, the town’s first city park. Spanning 20 acres, the village is populated by 38 historic structures including a railroad complex, farmstead, church, and pioneer and Victorian homes, where actors donning period clothing await to educate guests on their customs while making them wonder if they accidentally traveled back in time. The site hosts regular student history hunts and seasonal learning programs, such as Plow, Plant, and Shear and Civil War on the Homefront.
