What You'll Get
Click above to buy $22 children’s (12 and Under) sportfishing trip ($44.50 value). Click below for the adult trip.
- Buy here for $29 adult sportfishing trip ($58.50 value).
Venture out onto open waters to see how the other half of the animal kingdom lives and tastes. For $29, today’s Groupon gets you five hours of fishing on a licensed and Coast Guard–inspected boat, all the necessary rods and lines, and a food voucher for the boat’s galley from Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching (a $58.50 value). Kids 12 and under can come along and try their wriggly-wrasslin’ skills for $22. And though, like barnacles on a whale’s belly, kids can tag along with an adult for free on the 12:45 p.m. Sunday trips, you can buy here for a child’s ticket good for any day of the week.
Every wannabe angler over 16 must have a fishing license; one-day licenses are available before shoving off for an additional $13.75. Those who intend to spend their time non-angling do not need a license. Kids and adults get the same experience, only the children will be told about the child-eating octopus that attacks the boat if they fidget or say a grown-up word.
Set sail from the diamond waters of Dana Point Harbor for a morning of fishing, yarn spinning, exaggerated measuring, existential contemplations, and Herman Melville book circles. Dana Wharf’s experienced, salt-encrusted crew is required by California state law to ensure everyone has a good time. Both novice anglers and experienced mariners are welcome; the former thrilling at the first tug of their line and the fight for the thrashing fish, the latter happy to show everyone who’s bassmaster. You’ll trawl for delicious sand bass, calico bass, sculpin, and halibut. As long as what you catch isn’t under the size limit, Dana Wharf’s crew will filet it and put it on ice for you to take home and mount on your stomach lining.
Trips leave weekdays at 10 a.m. Check the schedule for future weekday trips or times that may be added. Weekend trips leave at 6:30 a.m. and noon (12:45 p.m. on Sundays). Depending on your trip time, your food voucher is good for breakfast or lunch, so restore yourself in the ship’s galley with $7.50 toward any plain-spoken item, like the breakfast platter (eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast, $8), hamburger ($5.25), quesadilla ($5), or some drinks ($1.75 for a soda; water, water everywhere and all you can drink). The galley plays by astronaut rules, meaning that you cannot bring your own lunch.
This Groupon cannot be used toward Dana Wharf’s seasonal evening squid trips.

About Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching
Dana Wharf Whale Watching's expert crews and skippers glide their watercrafts on the open seas to soak up sunshine while searching for rare and endangered whales as they migrate south to avoid tax season. Expert captains steer crafts through frothy spumes and narrate each trip, educating passengers on the abundant life beneath the glassy waters. Guests can treat their eyes to breathtaking views of the scenic Orange County coastline and the beautiful Pacific ocean while surveying the seascape for natural wildlife. Voyagers can either venture into the boat's full-service galley for a hot meal or bring their own food and nonalcoholic drinks to stave off hunger and resist eating the ocean's jagged, hamburger-shape coral.
