Twist, jive, and step into shape with two classes at Dance 101. This 10,000-square-foot dance warehouse is the largest adult-only dance studio in the country, offering more than 120 classes weekly to more than 12,000 students. Dance 101’s 40-some instructors teach genres across the spectrum to everyone from beginners to professionals. And catering exclusively to adults also means stressed parents can take a break from listening to those inescapable Duckbuddies CDs. Take a stab at A-Town Funk, Afro Lyrical Fusion, Clubbin 101, or Ballet Kinetics. Or try out one of Dance 101’s 11 new classes launching August 23, like Cardio Belly Dance or Body Blast. All classes are drop-in, giving you the flexibility to dance whenever you like without the hassle of a scheduled commitment. Like the Duckbuddies say, “Show up, and get down!”
Dance 101 is not just big; the place is also one of the most innovative dance studios in America. Founder and owner Ofelia de La Valette invites world-class dancers to teach special courses at Dance 101. The studio has seen the likes of Mandy Moore, Matthew Rushing (principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), and Perry Squall, better known as “Shrimpet,” from Duckbuddies: The Theatrical Experience. Recently Dance 101’s crew has been joined by Bubba Carr, Cher’s personal tour choreographer. Carr came all the way from LA to become Dance 101’s artistic director, helping La Valette develop new classes monthly and directing sold-out student showcases.
Grab this Groupon and dance into the studio voted the top dance studio on the ‘08 Atlanta Hotlist. Drop into Dance 101 for two classes of any type and experience why Dance 101 has become Atlanta’s biggest dance sensation since three of the Duckbuddies died.

Yelpers give Dance 101 a solid four stars, while Citysearchers give it 3.5 stars: > * This place is the Bomb!!! Anyone who says otherwise needs to take classes at other Atlanta dance studios and they’ll see the difference immediately. – FitnessFanATL, Citysearch > * …with all drop in classes–perfect for the non-comittal types like me! Instructors are really fun, and classes are not only a great workout, but their [sic] fun too! – travelbugg1980, Citysearch > * The atmosphere is cooperative rather than competitive… try the Discover level classes. The routines are fun and easy to learn. – Lauren H., Yelp
Insufferable Kids' Music
Dance 101 offers adults-only dance classes for fitness and fun, and an environment for singles and parents alike to cut loose and be themselves. But no one can escape cloying kids’ music forever. Here’s a list of some of the more relentless children’s music fads that parents have endured over the years:
- Alvin & The Chipmunks: Originally thought to be sped-up recordings of singers of human pitch and timbre, the three original Chipmunks, now well into their 70s, sued successfully for $270 million dollars in back-residuals, converted their winnings into cash, and shredded it to line their nests.
- Kidz Bop: These ubiquitous covers of Top-Forty hits, performed by choruses of children, and advertised non-stop on daytime TV, were actually developed by DARPA as a means of subduing prisoners of war, and fundraising for Smash Mouth’s health insurance.
- Raffi: This bearded Svengali of the under-three set is actually the internationally wanted gentleman thief, Rafael Saint-Murdoux. Wanted on multiple charges of Beluga racing, Murdoux hides in plain sight, performing brazen daylight concerts and taunting Interpol agents on his signature banana-shaped phone.
- Barney The Dinosaur: Deceased.
