Debra is an awesome teacher. She goes very slow and watches to make sure you are doing it right. She is very helpful and funny too. It is a great fun experience.

Your personality is infectious. It was a lot of fun. I would limit the number of couples for the space. I became very frustrated and tired and started to blame some people for hogging some of the dance floor space. It made me more tired than I would have become otherwise and decided not to come back that evening. Hope to sign up for lessons in the future. Thanks.

Hi Debra, Susan and I had a blast at our first [ well, my first ] dance class. We made the decision to keep our [ my ] expectations low and just have fun with it and we did. It felt like after absorbing 4 different dance steps in the afternoon and then coming back in the evening that recollections got a little muddled but it was all good. Do you have those Saturday night drop ins all the time ? Hope to see you again. Al Lewis

What You'll Get

Dancing is a healthy way to physically connect to someone, preferable to giving them a painful bear hug or sewing your head onto their body. Get cheek-to-cheek with this Groupon.

$39 for a Dance-Class Package for Two ($218 Total Value)

  • Two passes to Discover Dance held from 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 15 (a $138 value)
  • Four-week dance class for two (an $80 value)

The Discover Dance program takes place in three parts: from 12:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., instructors lead couples through 45-minute lessons that cover the basic steps and rhythms of dance styles, including beginner salsa and cha cha. After a dinner break, dancers reconvene at 7:30 p.m. for a review of the steps they’ve learned, followed by an evening social class and east coast swing dance lesson.

After trying out five dance styles, pairs can choose the four-week class they'd like to enroll in. Students should wear leather-soled shoes; women can wear a low heel. See the schedule.

DanceWorx

At DanceWorx, competitive dancer and instructor Debra Selzler teaches an everyman approach to dancing—her steps are suited to all body types and can be altered to accommodate dancers of all experience levels. She teaches more than 15 genres of dance, from ballroom to country to swing, in weekly classes that stand alone as self-contained routines. Her classes are very social; attendance is split almost evenly between couples and singles, so partners rotate frequently to give everyone a chance to cut a rug. During classes and dance parties, students whirl across the dance floor with partners of varying skill levels, leading and following styles, and number of left feet cast in lead. The dance parties give pupils a chance to show off their freshly learned moves and in a nightclub setting while learning from others before taking their twinkle toes to upcoming weddings or nights out on the town. For students who want to try a little bit of everything, she leads an all-day Discover Dance program, which introduces fancy feet to five dance styles in 45-minute snippets.
