Originally invented by bored henchmen looking to pass the time at Doctor Berserko’s secret Antarctic lair, hockey has since overtaken polo and unicycle jousting as America's pastime. Hop on the bandwagon with today’s Groupon: for $12, you get two tickets to a Dayton Gems hockey game (up to a $24 value). Children younger than 3 always enter for free. Choose from the following four games:
- Friday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. Come experience faith and family night with guest speaker A.C. Green, former three-time NBA champion and holder of NBA record for most consecutive games played.
- Saturday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets. The players will wear pink jerseys that will be auctioned off at the end of the night as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
- Thursday, February 17 at 7 p.m. against the Quad City Mallards. Take advantage of beer for a buck night (not included with the Groupon).
- Saturday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. against the Quad City Mallards. First 500 kids ages 12 and younger receive a youth jersey.
After a promising first season, the tough-as-nails, take-no-guff Gems are determined to grasp the CHL northern conference in their icy lobster claws. Watch left wing Corey Couturier deke the defense as goalie Derek Macintyre fiercely defends the tensile strength of the net by deflecting all incoming projectiles. With any luck, spectators will witness a hat trick, an all-out line brawl, and a reenactment of the Great Librarians' Uprising of 1974.
The Dayton Gems have more than 750 fans on Facebook.
