Bodies of water are frequent metaphors in poetry because of their unfathomable depths, unknowable sprawl, and unattainable porpoises. Set sail into the enigma with today's Groupon: for $18, you get one ticket to a Monuments by Moonlight cruise or a Happy Hour tour from DC Cruises (up to a $36 value). Tours depart from the Washington Marina.

DC Cruises allows adventuring sightseers to witness the nation's capital on the water, as only the ducklings of democracy have. During the Monuments by Moonlight cruise, passengers will drift past the city's monuments and landmarks, such as the Kennedy Center, the Jefferson Memorial, and Washington's popsicle stick sculpture of Betsy Ross. This tour runs two to three times per week. Alternately, on the Happy Hour tour, sipping skippers can enjoy $3 Miller Lites while leisurely cruising past the DC skyline. Departing three times a week, the jaunt lets sea sirens enjoy their drinks on the rocks while allowing passing Greek voyagers to dock safely.

Each cruise is 90 minutes, with light snacks and beverages (including wine and beer; cash only) available for purchase onboard. DC Cruises' boats are limited to 90 passengers, ensuring that everyone will enjoy an intimate sightseeing experience without the mass overcrowding and mosh pits of many boat tours.

DC Cruises

DC Cruises showcases the capital from an uncommon angle: the waterfront. The open-top yacht has a stylish lounge, air conditioning and panoramic windows. The top deck is the observation/dance deck. Both drift on the Potomac River from Georgetown to the Tidal Basin, taking in views of the Kennedy Center, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Washington Monument. Sunset and happy-hour cruises cast the buildings against colorful skies. At night, the moon glows on the marble structures, giving them new mystique. DJ parties, wine cruises, and crab feasts combine on-the-water sightseeing with local fare, and cherry-blossom cruises showcase signs of spring: trees dotted with pink blooms and newborn bills cooing in their bassinets on the Mall.

Really enjoyed the cruise and breathtaking views. Crew were very friendly. Only thing I would recommend is turning down the music as it takes away from meeting new people and engaging in conversation.
