The idea was born on a car trip. Brook Harvey and Billy Taylor were riding back from a surfing adventure when they got to talking about fragrances. Since childhood, Brook had mixed kitchen spices and aromatic oils in search of aromas she couldn't find anywhere else. Drawing from Billy's skills in production and Brook's scent savvy, the duo launched Pacifica and found itself in a flurry of praise that lauded their bath and body products, lip tints, perfumes, and soy candles. Their website sorts more than 20 fragrances into four categories: florals, fruits, herbs and spices, and woods and resins. The perfumes of Mediterranean figs, vanilla, and rose emanate from their soy candles and sulfate-free body washes, which moisturize skin or small patches of desert with essential oils.
Brook and Billy seek to minimize their carbon footprint by engaging local suppliers and creating recyclable packaging for their products. The two surfers also donate 1% of proceeds from their Island Vanilla line to Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society, which is dedicated to maritime exploration and education.
