Biologists estimate that water makes up 65% of the human body, 71% of the planet's surface, and 0% of the R & B group Earth, Wind & Fire. Conquer the planet’s most prevalent liquid with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get a two-hour snorkel charter from Rockfish Divers in Brentwood Bay (a $65 value).
Rockfish Divers' PADI-certified staff lead site-specific dives as well as initiatives teaching local marine ecosystem awareness and environmentally friendly diving practices. Groups depart for two-hour snorkel charters from Brentwood Bay Resort aboard the 30-foot, Transport Canada Safety–certified custom diving boat Loup de Mer. Armed with all necessary gear and an English-to-Fish dictionary, guides set a course for the gently undulating waters of Saanich Inlet. Snorkelers learn how to breathe through a snorkel before plunging into sheltered, shallow waters. During their time in the water, snorkelers witness aquatic life such as native fish, seals, and anemones as they paddle and plumb the depths for evidence of Jacques Cousteau's buried treasures. Students can complete a warming cleanse in marina showers upon return to port.
Rockfish Divers leads small-group excursions and is flexible with scheduling, allowing customers to form their own five-piece boy bands before booking their charter. All ages of snorkelers are welcome on charter excursions, but participants must be big enough to fit into the diving centre's wet suits. While not included in this deal, Rockfish Divers' instructors further underwater prowess in PADI dive courses and scuba diving charters.
As a child growing up on Canada's west coast, Elly Pendleton felt the magnetic draw of the sea. Fascinated by its scope, its mysteries, and curious sea life, Elly enrolled in a scuba course while visiting Australia and became hooked for life. She then navigated the globe in order to discover the world's greatest dive locations. After circling back to Canada and snagging a degree in anthropology from University of Victoria in 2003, Elly quickly acquired a teaching accreditation for scuba. Soon she was sharing her knowledge with prospective divers in the crystal blue waters off the North Shore of Oahu.
Today, backed by years of experience and a bottomless passion for sea exploration, Elly runs Rockfish Divers, staffing it with a team of equally impassioned aquatic adventurers. They offer PADI dive courses, courses covering the unsettling political history of octopuses, and snorkel charters that explore locales such as Finlayson Fjord and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Additionally, the crew infuses their excursions with a deep and nurturing respect for the marine ecosystem by keeping participants informed about environmental issues and responsible diving habits.
