Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

Approximately how many bulbs (total) do you get for this deal?

Jeanne D.  asked on  Sep 27, 2012

A:

Hi Jeanne. This Groupon is valid for $50 toward an order of Value Bags and Jumbo Packs here. So the number of bulbs would depend on what you order. You would just be responsible for any cost over the $50 value.

Q:

What are the best bulbs to buy for the climate in San Diego, CA?

Susan C.  asked on  Sep 27, 2012

A:

You are located in zone 8-10 we suggest planting bulbs for spring planting as they do best in your climate. Since this groupon doesn't expire until March of 2013 these items can be purchased in January when we start our pre-sale for spring planting bulbs.

Q:

How long can you keep them before planting and when is the best time to plant in Atlanta, Georgia?

Drew B.  asked on  Sep 27, 2012

A:

You can store them for a couple of months, as long as you keep them in a cool, dry and dark location. The best time to plant is when your temperatures are consistently in the 60's during the day. If you store them until December and plant them then, that would be an ideal time to plant.

Q:

I live in Fairhope Al. 36532, I would like to plant these in my flower garden, that I am going to dig up alot of (too many) spreaders, and not enough flowers, too much green. What package would be right for us,and what flowers would we receive in our package & will there be instuctions for palnting & what season? Gramabark@yahoo.com Email Thanks

Joyce B.  asked on  Sep 28, 2012

A:

Hi Joyce! You are technically located in hardiness zone 8b. Most of the fall planted bulbs (which is what we are currently selling) require a chilling period of at least 8-14 weeks (temperatures consistently below 55 degrees) in order to bloom and grow correctly. If you do not receive this weather naturally outdoors, you will need to artificially provide these conditions by placing the bulbs into a cooler or refrigerator for that period of time. If this does not interest you, my best advice would be to wait to use the Groupon until we begin pre-selling our spring planted bulbs (such as cannas, callas, lilies, begonias, etc.) in early January. These bulbs are much better-suited for your climate. Keep in mind that the Groupon does not expire until March 2013 so you would definitely still have time to use it. Also, please be assured that we send comprehensive planting instructions with all of our products to guide you.

Q:

Which bulbs do you recommend for Sacramento, CA? and what about Napa, CA? Thanks!

cb w.  asked on  Sep 28, 2012

A:

Hi there! Thanks for your question. Both of those areas are located in hardiness zone 9. Most of the fall planted bulbs (all of the items currently for sale on our website) require a "chilling period" of 8-14 weeks with temperatures consistently below 55 degrees in order for them to grow and bloom correctly which means that they do best when planted in zones north of you. If you do not receive this weather naturally outdoors but still want to grow the fall planted (spring blooming) bulbs in your area, they will need to be artificially chilled by placing them in a refrigerator for the recommended amount of time. If this does not interest you, then we would recommend waiting to use your Groupon until spring when we have our spring planted ( summer blooming) bulbs available in early January which do GREAT in the more southern areas!

Q:

2 questions: Is the "Extra $4.95 fee for shipping." in addition to the normal shipping rates on your site or instead of? How is a case handled if there is confirmation on fall shipment but a stockout prior to actual shipment?

JR A.  asked on  Sep 29, 2012

A:

Hi JR! Thanks for your question and for participating in our Groupon deal. The $4.95 flat shipping fee is not in addition to the regular rates but rather replaces those rates. When checking out, you will see the regular shipping rate appear in your "view cart" page but then after entering the Groupon voucher code and clicking to the payment section of checkout, you will see that shipping fee change to the promotional $4.95 rate. As for the fall stock, we only sell stock that we currently have in inventory. Therefore, we do not intend to "oversell" any item. I hope that is what you were asking. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Q:

Can the coupon go toward shipping cost if the package you choose does not exceed the $50. amount? Also, when you say there is an additional $4.95 shipping charge, is that in addition to the shipping cost you show on the chart? Thanks.

Jane F.  asked on  Sep 30, 2012

A:

Hi Jane! Thanks for your question and for participating in our Groupon deal. The $50.00 Groupon voucher can be applied to product only and not shipping. Therefore, if the full $50 is not used, a shipping charge of $4.95 will still need to be paid. Hope this helps!

Q:

Hi... are any or all of the bulbs included in this Groupon perennials? Also, I live in Brooklyn, NY, and understand that bulbs need to be planted within the next week or so. Yet, you state they need to be planted when the temps are consistently in the 60s. Please claify. Also, our gardening space is only 13' x 3'. Any suggestions how many bulbs would be needed to cover this small space? Thanks so much!!!!! (PS: I just went looking for bulbs in Home Depot today. They only had annual bulbs, and then I came home, and there you were!) :)

Karen C.  asked on  Oct 3, 2012

A:

Yes many of the bulbs in this groupon will be perennials. For the best pernnializing fall planted bulbs we suggest you plant Daffodils, Darwin Hybrid Tulips, Hyacinths, Muscari and Crocus they will all return for 3-5+ years. Your garden space is 39 square feet, you will need about 200 daffodils or 200 tulips, or a mix of 100 tulips and 100 daffodils to cover that space. If you also wanted to plant some early blooming crocus you would need about 300 to fill that space. In regard to planting time, fall planted bulbs should be planted once your temperatures are consistently in the 60's or lower during the day and can be planted any time in fall as long as the ground is not frozen solid. Therefore if you are planting in Brooklyn, you should be able to plant all the way through November. We hope we have been able to answer your questions, let us know if you have any additional questions or need anything else! Have a great day!

Q:

Are these bulbs Texas friendly? My zip is 76033

Shirley E.  asked on  Oct 2, 2012

A:

Hi Shirley, Thank you for your question and your interest in our Groupon deal! You are technically located in hardiness zone 8a. Most of the fall bulbs do best in zones 3 to 7 or 8. Therefore, you are kind of right on the border between where certain bulbs (such as tulips) will receive a long enough chilling period naturally outdoors to bloom and grow correctly. Most fall bulbs require a cold period of 8-14 weeks with temperatures consistently below 55 degrees. If you feel you do not receive this type of period naturally outdoors, then you would want to place these bulbs in a refrigerator prior to planting. If this is not something that interests you, I would suggest waiting until we begin our pre-sale for all of our spring planted items (in early January) which are very well-suited for climates such as yours. Keep in mind that the Groupon can be used up through March 2013 so you would still have plenty of time to order! Hope this helps :)

Q:

I was wondering if there is any chance i could get all blue flower with this deal? Thanks

Jerry D.  asked on  Oct 2, 2012

A:

Hi Jerry! Thanks for your interest in our Groupon deal. You could definitely pick only blue flowers as we do have a few of them available in the Value Bag/Jumbo Pack category which this voucher can be used towards. If you are specifically looking for blue, I would recommend the Blue Grape Hyacinth, the Blue Jacket Hyacinth, and/or the Delft Blue Hyacinth. All are available under this deal! Hope this helps :)

Q:

Hello - Interesting in buying some bulbs but I need very earlier spring bloomers. My son is getting married in our backyard on May 11th. I wanted to plant bulbs specifically in the area they will be having the ceremony. We live in the northern suburbs of IL so it will still be pretty cool. Do you have any suggestions? Wanted to stay in the blues/white/cream colors is possible. Thank you.

Melissa S.  asked on  Sep 29, 2012

A:

Hi Melissa, Thank you for your question and for your participation in the Groupon deal! When planning bulbs to bloom for a specific date (such as your son's wedding) we always caution people simply because it is important to remember that these are natural products whose bloom time can vary slightly based on the weather of that particular season. In order to assure your best chance of having bulbs in bloom for the date of May 11st in a zone 5/6 (such as you are), we would recommend planting a combination of mid and late spring bloomers. Any of the hyacinth would be great (they are available in both white and blue) as they are mid-spring bloomers and then any white or blue mid- and late spring blooming tulips (such as the Single Late Tulips) would be a good choice as well. If you would like to discuss your options further, feel free to jump on our live online chat or give us a call at 1.800.689.2852 during our normal business hours. Hope this helps and congrats to your son!
