Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

I have polaroids and other old pictures smaller than 4 X 6 can those be used for this deal?

Terri P.  asked on  Oct 25, 2012

A:

This discounted Groupon deal as-is is only for scanning 4x6" photos to DVD however we do offer to scan other sizes upon submission of your order to us for scanning. Here's how: First, purchase the Groupon deal today. Then, when submitting your photos to us for scanning, select the option to scan sizes other than 4x6 on the order form for an additional $14.95 per Groupon. This will allow you to send sizes ranging from 3x3" up to 8x10" (Please note photos must be organized by size).

Q:

How long does the entire process typically take?

Jenn L.  asked on  Oct 25, 2012

A:

Process time is dependent upon the number of orders we receive. Typically turnaround is a 1-2 week turnaround but if we receive an unusually high number of orders at one time, this can cause delays. Once your order arrives, we will email you notifying you that your order has been received as well as an estimated completion time. If you need it faster than the estimate, we do offer a Priority scanning to complete your order in 1-2 business days for an additional $28 per Groupon.

Q:

Could you please explain the difference between 300 and 600 dpi and also the difference between these two options and digital files. Craig

Craig F.  asked on  Oct 25, 2012

A:

The easiest way to answer that is via this link http://www.scanmyphotos.com/300v600dpi.php The short answer, the higher the resolution, the finer the detail in the scan and more flexibility when it comes to printing, editing and enlarging.

Ken R.  asked on  Oct 25, 2012

Q:

I have slides that I need scanned in order. Are you able to do that and what would be the rate? Thanks!

Jennifer B.  asked on  Oct 25, 2012

A:

This Groupon is only for photo scanning. We do offer slide scanning as a standard service and we attempt to scan them in the order specified, but we do not offer scanning in order for slides specifically. If for example, you send slides in carousels, we would scan them starting at slot 1 through to the end of the carousel and that would be one folder of scanned images. The next carousel, would follow suit. See http://www.scanmyphotos.com/category/slide-scanning.html for pricing.

Q:

i purchased the standard offers. when i complete the form nd indicate that i have photos outside the range of 4x6, do i attache thr groupn and then just include a check for the difference of 14.95, or whatever applies, when i mail it in?

maria v.  asked on  Oct 26, 2012

A:

Please note, no additional option is selected during the purchase of the Groupon itself. Once you purchase the Groupon, you will receive a notice from Groupon and a voucher in your Groupon account for you to print out. On the voucher is a section entitled "How to use this". Follow the link provided to take to you the instructions and the necessary order form. On this order form that you submit with your photos are all of the additional options, including sizes other than 4x6. We only accept payment via credit card.

More Questions and Answers

Q:

My question is pertaining to Groupon Deal of the Day. Back in January I purchased your deal of the day and it was for 1000 4x6 photos converted to DVD for $29. You deal now is for 500 4x6 photos converted to DVD for $29, because you are including an extra copy on DVD. Instead of getting the extra DVD, can I have an extra 500 photos scanned?

Pamela S.  asked on  Oct 30, 2012

A:

Our overall pricing and pricing structure have changed since January, thus this new deal is reflective of our new pricing plus it adds the additional backup DVD ($19.95 value).

Q:

If only the scanning order of photos within a bundle matters and not the order of the bundles, is there still a reason to purchase the extra "scan in order" option?

Catherine M.  asked on  Oct 29, 2012

A:

It depends. If you absolutely need them scanned in the specific order you ship them (including instances where you want bundles staying together with the bundle order not mattering), you would need to add the additional option to "scan in order" for an additional $14.95. If not selected, the first step in the scanning process is to remove all rubber bands and then the scanning technician will scan them in the quickest, most efficient maner. Often times this is in the order sent but not always, nor is it guaranteed. If "scan in order" is selected, we will scan them bundle by bundle.

Q:

I am concerned about sending the ONLY copy of my kids baby pictures etc. How do i avoid any loss? This is critical to me. Have you EVER lost any photos??? thanks

Susan C.  asked on  Oct 28, 2012

A:

ScanMyPhotos.com, founded back in 1990 is a leader in the photo imaging industry and professionally scans tens of millions of photos. You may use any shipping company you that are most comfortable with. However, we cannot warrantee or guarantee courier deliveries. You can send via signature confirmation and other specialty services and we do digitally archive and backup your entire order for 10-15 days as an added precaution. That said, the real problem is if you don’t have your pictures digitized, your photos do risk getting tucked away at home and misplaced, inadvertently thrown away, faded or lost due to fire, flood, etc. so either way there is a risk involved. If you don't use us, we HIGHLY recommend digitizing and backing up your photos ASAP either using another company or doing it yourself.

Q:

Will you scan the pictures in the order they are shipped ? I would like to keep them in chronological order. How is the best way to organize them and ship them so that they will be printed in the right order?

Q:

I want to purchase for my daughters..but I don't quite understand ...what is the diff. In the two pkgs ? Do u receive 2 DVD copies w/ the 49 pkg that if I purchased wld both of my daughters have a useable copy? Can more be burned? Can these DVDs be viewed in both on a computer and a TV? As u can tell I'm not up on all the new tech..lol..Ty

CINDY O.  asked on  Oct 29, 2012

A:

The key difference is the scanning resolution. The $29 deal is scanned at 300 DPI while the $49 deal is scanned at 600 DPI. You can read more about the resolutions at http://www.scanmyphotos.com/300v600dpi.php . Additionally, with the $49 deal, we supply you with an extra DVD and one month of secure, off-site back-up. Should something unforeseen happen to your DVD in that first month, we can create a new one for you instantly. If we are not backing up your files and something happens to your disc, the only way to have them in a digital format is for us to rescan them at cost for you.

ScanMyPhotos.com  from  Merchant  replied on  Oct 29, 2012

A:

To answer your other questions, yes you can copy the DVDs if you wish and we encourage you to in order to have as many back-ups as possible and suggets sending the discs to family members that are out of state, when possible.

ScanMyPhotos.com  from  Merchant  replied on  Oct 29, 2012

A:

Finally, the DVDs we provide you are not a slideshow or movie. It is simply a data disc with your scanned images as individual JPEG files. You can then take these files and create your own movie to add music to and watch on a TV using a program such as iMovie but we do not offer this as a service. The disc we provide cannot be viewed on your TV unless you specifically have a DVD player that can take JPEG files and show them like a movie. You would need to refer to your owner's manual to see if it can be done.

Q:

How long (or until when) is the groupon valid?

Joe C.  asked on  Oct 29, 2012

A:

Your order submitted to us must be postmarked on or before the expiration date (April 24, 2013). If you forget this date, you can refer to "The Fine Print" on the deal purchase page or at the top of these Deal Q&A's as it is noted there.

Q:

Many of my old photos have a small sticker in a corner on the back (approx 0.5 x 0.75in) which was part of my cataloging system. The photos do "bend/curl easily" (as your requirements state). Are these photos still OK for your scanning service with this groupon?

Joe C.  asked on  Oct 29, 2012

A:

They should be ok but please note that if the sticker is peeling at all or is showing any sticky part, it may grab the photo beneath it as it passes over our scanner giving you a less than optimal scan.

Q:

I may have missed the question if asked previously, so i do apologize in advance.... When scanning the photos, is it possible to add or include music onto the dvds when i receive them from you?

Dione T.  asked on  Oct 29, 2012

A:

Good question and hasn't been asked yet. The DVDs we provide you are not a slideshow or movie. It is simply a data disc with your scanned images as individual JPEG files. You can then take these files and create your own movie to add music to and watch on a TV using a program such as iMovie but we do not offer this as a service.

Q:

My family has VHS and 8 mm tapes that are anywhere from 22-15 years old...from when my kids were little. Is there anyway to restore the ones that are no longer of optimal quality?

Valerie D.  asked on  Oct 28, 2012

A:

We offer VHS and 8mm transfer to DVD as part of out standard services, but not as part of this deal. Unfortunately, we do not do any restoration of the movies, they are transferred "as-is". For full details and pricing, visit http://www.scanmyphotos.com/category/video-transfer.html
