What You'll Get

The first go-kart-racing track was a circle because it was designed to teach children how centripetal force feels without rolling them down hills in tires. Learn circularly with today's Groupon.

Polson Pier

When in Toronto, a Roman would probably do the same thing a million other people do each year—journey to Polson Pier, a scenic waterfront property filled with entertainment opportunities. This fun-filled destination features a 0.75-kilometre go-kart track where 10 turns miserably fail to prevent miniature cars from reaching their top speed of 40 kilometres per hour and breaking the miniature sound barrier. Over at the driving range, golf balls hurl themselves sunward from 58 lighted tees—each with a built-in heater that encourages play all year long—and fall into 18 different holes at the putting course. Warmer months breathe life into the pier’s beach volleyball court, pool, and 40-foot rock-climbing wall, which, like a treadmill that powers a video-game system, can be used for fitness and fun simultaneously. Polson Pier is where bands come to play, too. Sound Academy—an indoor concert hall that comfortably fits up to 2,600 guests—gives them an advanced stage for making music, dazzling the eyes and ears with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.

After a day of fun, the pier’s restaurant, Cabana, helps guests unwind with a cool drink and a view that overlooks Lake Ontario and its massive drain plug. Another place to relax is the drive-in theatre, where movies bring life to the big screen as cars fall asleep to the sound of their favourite theme music.

About Polson Pier

The rumble of engines. The squeal of tires. The victorious flap of checkered flag. Traditionally, the exhilarating sounds of auto racing have been confined to the zooming packs of Indycars that snake around the streets of Exhibition Place every summer. Now, however, visitors to Polson Pier can keep Toronto's race day spirit alive for months at a time. The 0.75-kilometre track, one of the largest in the area, invites up to 20 racers at a time to navigate side-by-side traffic in karts that hit top speeds of 40 kilometres per hour. In addition to outmanoeuvring their fellow racers, drivers must also contend with the track itself, where 10 turns challenge reaction time and racing instincts alike. After races end, drivers can recount tales of on-track adventure at other nearby attractions, including a miniature golf course, indoor rock climbing, and a driving range.
