A wonderful, fun experience. Sue gave great information and instructions, and allowed us the freedom and materials to express our creative energy. I wish we lived closer so we could we could go frequently. This exceeded our expectations. My wife is so excited and is looking forward to pick up her finished piece.

Sarasota School of Glass

The Sarasota School of Glass invites artisans into its studio to learn the techniques of fusing, casting, and slumping colorful decorations and dishes. Projects begin with fusing, where students layer pieces of colored glass into creative designs and melt them in a kiln, turning the parts into one solid piece. The second firing is called slumping or kiln forming, where the fused glass is heated in a mold until it takes on the shape of the desired vase, plate, or eternally molten plasma gob. Complementing a large menu of intensive and just-for-fun workshops, free Wacky Wednesday sessions lend artists the school's glass pros to diagnose problems and suggest fresh techniques over snacks. The studio and kiln are also available for independent artists creating their own pieces or heating up their lunch.
