Trying to schedule our sail was a little nerve-racking since I waited what seemed like a long time to receive text messages about when and where to meet the boat. Be patient, they do respond to your messages eventually. This part of Seven Seas process could use some improvement. Once we met Captain Chuck and he welcomed us on his boat the fun began. The cruise started as a sight seeing trip. Captain Chuck was very friendly and personable. Within the first half hour of our sail, Captain Chuck made us feel like friends that he had invited out to join him to cruise the lake and enjoy the sunset. The 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Captain Mark was a wealth of knowledge and made the trip fun and informative. We learned "boat language", sailboat racing, and discovered he was a student when my husband was teaching in West Seneca.

What You'll Get

Boat captains must master nautical lexicon before setting sail to ensure that they can distinguish port, which means left, from starboard, which means launch the vessel into deep space. Count down to a lake launch with today’s Groupon: for $79, you get a sailing excursion for two from Seven Seas Sailing School of Buffalo (a $199 value). Cruises take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Seven Seas Sailing School whisks passengers across the sparkling waters of Lake Erie on afternoon or evening cruises helmed by seaworthy captains. While bobbing among the waves and taking in the picturesque scene, sailing duos are permitted to snack on refreshments they brought with them via picnic basket or burro. Two-hour cruises embark either at midday or sunset. Up to four additional guests ($25/person) can tag along for group outings and help to build human pyramids on deck. This Groupon also entitles buyers to a $50 discount for each person on sailing classes ($349 for an individual; $599 for a pair).

About Seven Seas Sailing Center

Open since 1970, the U.S. Sailing Association–accredited Seven Seas Sailing Center offers landlubbers a taste of the aquatic life aboard sailboats manned by U.S. Coast Guard–certified captains. The team regularly exercises budding sailors' sea legs with certification courses and a seven-part Basic Sail program, and has also instructed students with multiple sclerosis and worked with the Sea Scouts to construct the world's first brick sailboat as part of a mission to take down rogue lighthouses. Seven Seas' headquarters on the Buffalo Ship Canal, complete with on-shore barbecues, a gazebo, and dockside gardens, hosts regular Friday-night family Sailabration events that combine food and fireworks with lively cruises and contests. When not sailing through their own programs, Seven Seas' captains and boats have been featured as crews in The Sullivans and Bruce Almighty.
