Knitting was invented to turn the tumbling balls of yarn that littered the badlands habitat of early man into a soft, warm blanket for man’s first pet rock. Create something cozy with today’s Groupon to Yarniverse. Choose from the following options:

  • For $20, you get a Beginner Knitting class for two (a $50 value). The two-hour classes take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
  • For $35, you get a Box Bottom Bag class for two (a $70 value). The two-hour classes take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening.
  • For $12, you get $25 worth of knitting materials and accessories.<p>

Yarniverse’s two-story building houses an enthusiastic staff, who spurs warm, homemade creations with a collection of yarns, tools, and lessons. Beginner knitting classes teach basic skills sich as the knit, purl, cast-on, and cast-off, while the Box Bottom Class guides beginners during sessions that lead fingers through the creation of a felted bag by using a simple knit stitch and knitting-in-the-round technique. Lessons in decreasing help form the bag’s box bottom, and the I-cord technique creates the handles and cozies for pet garter snakes. The project requires three skeins of Brown Sheep bulky yarn in order to make a two-color bag, as well as a 24-inch circular #11 needle; materials can be purchased onsite in a variety of colors or brought from home.

For knitting at home, the fiber facility unveils aisles of materials and tools, including the sleek Addi Turbo needle ($16.95) and skeins of cushy alpaca-blend Lima yarn ($12.95), all of which can be organized comfortably in a Lantern Moon needle case ($36) or messenger bag ($12). A pig-shaped tape measure ($12) aids in the accurate completion of project ideas from Stitchionary ($29.95), and a felted daffodil kit ($11.95) provides crafters with the necessary materials for a perennial pot of golden flowers. The staff parades an array of yarns sorted by fiber, color, weight, and the number of dentists who recommended it for flossing.

Yarniverse's Attic Store

The staffers at Yarniverse's Attic Store understand that it often takes more than yarn and needles to see a knitting project through to the end. With this in mind, they man a round table inside the two-story shop where they help clients master tricky patterns, inspire them to try new techniques, and fuel knitting sprees with friendly conversation until each wooly endeavor is complete. Before starting new projects, clients stock up on yarns and knitting tools or refresh their skills in a class that covers how to make socks, dog sweaters, or vintage scarves.
