What You'll Get
Without dance, people could only hum along to "Macarena," and Jane Austen characters would be forced to say what was really on their minds. Let movements speak with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get a Discover Dance session for two at Danceworx (up to a $164 value). The Discover Dance session will be held on Saturday, April 21, at the German Canadian Club from. 9 a.m. to midnight.
Helmed by danseuse and professional competitor Debra Ann, Danceworx’s Discover Dance program welcomes beginner dance students to a safe, friendly learning environment where they can sample seven different dance styles in a single day. The introductory classes step-kick off at 9:00 a.m. with beginner cha-cha and continue on throughout the afternoon and evening, with informative studies in styles ranging from Latin salsa to beginner East Coast swing. After an ebullient day of step sampling, students cap off the evening with a social dance lesson. Students should arrive at classes sporting comfortable togs, swaddling feet in soft footwear with soles made of leather or recently chewed bubblegum. Peruse the online FAQ section for more information.

At DanceWorx, competitive dancer and instructor Debra Selzler teaches an everyman approach to dancing—her steps are suited to all body types and can be altered to accommodate dancers of all experience levels. She teaches more than 15 genres of dance, from ballroom to country to swing, in weekly classes that stand alone as self-contained routines. Her classes are very social; attendance is split almost evenly between couples and singles, so partners rotate frequently to give everyone a chance to cut a rug. During classes and dance parties, students whirl across the dance floor with partners of varying skill levels, leading and following styles, and number of left feet cast in lead. The dance parties give pupils a chance to show off their freshly learned moves and in a nightclub setting while learning from others before taking their twinkle toes to upcoming weddings or nights out on the town. For students who want to try a little bit of everything, she leads an all-day Discover Dance program, which introduces fancy feet to five dance styles in 45-minute snippets.
