Ballroom-dance classes teach students how to glide gracefully with a partner, just like the two-person luge or tandem sky dives. Take the plunge into the performing arts with today's Groupon: for $49, you get five semi-private dance lessons for two at Golden City Ballroom (a $150 value).
Led by Russian ballroom adepts Vitaliy Kozhev and Irina Miller, the certified instructors at Golden City Ballroom get beginning hoofers' pulses pumping with social-dancing styles including American smooth, ballroom, and international Latin. Lessons held Monday–Friday at 6:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. introduce groups of 20–30 paired movers and shakers to the basics of styles such as the tango, the waltz, or the foxtrot before graduating to more sophisticated steps. During intermediate and advanced salsa classes, students face the challenge of swiveling their hips in six dimensions.
Golden City Ballroom's 2,400-square-foot studio space dazzles dancers with a suspended hardwood floor, multiple music systems, and wall-to-wall mirrors for checking proper form. After hanging up their dancing shoes, clients can relax on one of the comfortable couches in the student lounge and discuss the best places to show off new skills, such as the upcoming school-board meeting or while waiting in airport security lines.
Golden City Ballroom
At Golden City Ballroom, students learn dances from the waltz to the rumba in a well-appointed studio. On its 2,400 square feet of suspended hardwood floors, students practice fancy footwork, double-checking their technique in wall-to-wall mirrors. They can also hit the same dance floor for LaBlast dance fitness classes, which incorporate the calorie-burning moves seen on Dancing with the Stars.
