I had Jambalaya, it was OK, I remembered that it was way better a couple of years ago. The double patty burger was good. HH was good also.

I've had previous positive experiences here, but my most recent order wiped out all the good will built up to this point. I ordered Pesto Mac and Goat Cheese for take out. Under the menu line it lists "With Fried Chicken." Taking the meal back home, I found slices a garlic toast instead of any chicken. I phoned back to ask if the order was wrong, and was told no, the fried chicken was a separate listing that would have cost extra. If you look at the online menu compared with every other menu item, this is NOT how the meals are advertised. I previously bought takeout Jambalaya before, and the sub heading of "Shrimp, Chicken and Chorizo with Garlic Toast" is not something you buy separately. It's what it's comprised of. Even if the fried chicken did cost extra, there's no price listing beside it. So I consider the response a flat out lie. In addition, the take out provided no utensils, and the tablespoon serving of ice cream for four dollars is honestly so insulting, I find it difficult to ever want to come back.

About Deacon's Corner

Upon first glance, Deacon's Corner has all the trappings of a traditional diner: deliciously greasy breakfast food, darn fine cups of coffee, and good old-fashioned counter seating. Don't be fooled, though—look a little further, and you'll find there's more than meets the eye. "The sign on the door and menu may say 'diner', and the interior looks much like a standard cafeteria, albeit a clean and retro-modern iteration," says Mark Busse of Foodists, "but this is not your father’s greasy spoon." Though Busse was referring to the original Gastown location, his description rings 100% true for the sister spot in Kitsilano, too.

Just take a look at the dinner menu, which puts inventive twists on old favorites. The mac and cheese, for example, unexpectedly ropes in pesto and goat cheese, and the steak-and-cheese sandwich showcases tender, grilled onions, and mushrooms. Of course, if guests are simply in the mood for un-tinkered-with classics, they've got those, too, including a reuben sandwich and a beef burger that's been ranked one of the area's best by Vancity Buzz. Regardless of what winds up on their plates, diners can accompany any meal with a frosty bottle of cider, glass of wine, or pint of draft beer.
